87,000 fans travelled to Kitzbühel for the 86th Hahnenkamm Races. The Downhill Race on Saturday attracted some 1.58 million television viewers on Austria’s ORF network, while 2.35 million tuned in via Germany’s ARD.

The 86th Hahnenkamm Races once again attracted huge crowds of sports fans: 21,000 visitors came to watch the Super-G on Friday, and 45,000 filled the finish stadium to capacity on Saturday. The final Slalom on the Ganslern slope on Sunday was watched by 21,000 spectators. A total of 87,000 fans attended the three days of racing.

The viewing figures recorded so far are equally encouraging. An impressive 253,000 skiing fans watched the downhill training on Wednesday afternoon on ORF. The Super-G on Friday attracted an average of 850,000 viewers, while Saturday’s Hahnenkamm downhill reached an average audience of 1.58 million.
In Germany, excitement around the Streif races was shared by around 870,000 viewers on Friday and 2.35 million on Saturday via ARD.

Host broadcaster ORF also screened both evening award ceremonies at the Red Bull Finish House. The programme resonated particularly well with the audience on Saturday: an average of 396,000 ORF viewers cheered on the downhill heroes, with Giovanni Franzoni taking centre stage.

An impressive number of viewers tuned in to the numerous in-depth ORF documentaries and TV formats on the Hahnenkamm Races. “In her new Wednesday evening documentary "Nach dem Sturz" ("After the Fall"), journalist Lisa Gadenstätter explored the safety precautions on the Streif and visited three former athletes who had suffered serious accidents there. 344,000 persons watched it on ORF TV network.
